Pass rushers who keep pressure rate steady even as snap counts get managed down.

That's the tell. Not "he made three Pro Bowls," but "his per-snap output isn't decaying on schedule." Guys who buck the aging curve are the ones building resumes that survive scrutiny a decade after they retire, when the conversation shifts from highlights to spreadsheets anyway.

Where the Model Gets Suspicious

Be skeptical of résumés propped up by longevity alone. Counting stats accumulated via volume on bad teams, or box-score stat lines inflated by scheme rather than separation/pressure/coverage numbers — that's the profile that looks great in a bar argument and falls apart under film and tracking data. The Hall of Fame conversation is littered with players who had the raw numbers but not the era-adjusted efficiency to back it up once voters started actually cross-checking.

The flip side: players getting underrated right now because their box score doesn't pop are often the ones a model would flag first. Elite target separation without gaudy touchdown totals. Pressure rate dominance without sack totals that make headlines. Coverage numbers that don't show up unless you're tracking targets allowed per coverage snap. Those are the guys whose Canton case builds quietly and then looks obvious in retrospect — the model saw it three years before the narrative caught up.

The Real Test

Hall of Fame projection isn't about who's already great — it's about who's great in a way that ages well. Efficiency over volume. Per-snap value over box-score gravity. If a player's numbers are still climbing or holding flat against the aging curve at a position where decline is the default, that's the signal worth trusting.
